Museum August Macke Haus

The August Macke House Museum is dedicated to preserving the memory and work of August Macke and the Rhenish Expressionists, maintaining the former home and studio of August Macke in a dignified manner, and researching and communicating topics and aspects relating to August Macke and his artistic environment and the Expressionist era phenomenon of Expressionism, including connections to contemporary art through special exhibitions and events. To this end, the museum collects works and documents by August Macke and the Rhenish Expressionists and maintains an archive and a library.

In 2017, the Künstlerhaus was expanded with a spacious modern extension. Since then, all 14 rooms of the building have been converted into a comprehensive exhibition on the life and work of the internationally renowned artist. The adjoining functional extension provides barrier-free access to August Macke's former home and studio and includes rooms for special exhibitions and events, a roof terrace, a museum education studio, a library, the museum shop and a museum café with a terrace in the idyllic garden between the artist's house and the extension, which is shielded from the street by a high freestanding glass façade.

The Museum August Macke Haus is operated without state or municipal subsidies by the Museum August Macke Haus gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (non-profit limited liability company). The shareholders are the Verein August Macke Haus e. V. (51%) and the Stiftung August Macke Haus der Sparkasse in Bonn (49%).
